Students examined the work of John Howe to learn about the mood and feeling of artwork. Then the students created paint pulls using an analogous color scheme to form the base of their castles. After discussing different castles worldwide, students used Sharpie to add architectural details to their artwork.
Day One
The students will look at John Howe's work and see a demonstration of how to make a paint pull. The students will then create two paint pulls for the project. If time is left, the students can make a third paint pull. Finally, if not enough time is left, the students can clean their space and sketch castles for the rest of the class.
Day Two
The students will look at castles around the world and discuss the different characteristics of these castles and what they might want to use in their artwork. The students will then use a pencil to start laying out the design of their fantasy castles for the rest of the class.
Day Three
The students will have a work day. The students will finish the pencil and trace the pencil lines with Sharpie during class.
Day Four
The students will finish drawing or tracing the castle elements if there is unfinished work. Then they will mount both completed images to a sheet of construction paper.
