The students will be creating a still-life painting of their favorite food. The students will be making use of elliptical forms and watercolor painting.

Day One

Students will start the class by looking at a vase opening and squatting down to see how the opening changes. Students will be doing an elliptical form BootCamp with the activity packet. Using the packet demonstrates the different ways to draw elliptical forms as the students fill out the handout.

Day Two

Students will have a teacher lead discussion about composition, the rule of thirds, horizon lines, and contingencies. Next class the students will work on brainstorming their ideas. The students will start by sketching just their food items and end with a first draft that they will turn in for notes before moving onto the final paper in the next class.

Day Three

Students will be given stencils and a discussion on drawing lightly to help them start to sketch their final artwork onto watercolor paper. They will need the teacher’s approval before moving on to Sharpie.

Day Four

Students will finish sketching in pencil, and once the teacher approves, they will move onto tracing their lines using Sharpie. If students finish early, there will be a drawing from life activity to do.

Day Five

Students will spend the day using learning about watercolor as a medium and familiarizing themselves with the medium using the worksheet.

Day Six

The students will start to paint their final work focusing on the food and drinks.

Day Seven

The students will get a demonstration on using oil pastels for resits and will add a pattern to their final and finish painting.
